As CEO of 6Connex, I want to encourage interests and opinions from our employees that aren’t always just about the business. To that end, I’m pleased to post the first blog in a series about a topic important to me, hiring military veterans.
First, I am not a military veteran. I do, however, have a passion for wanting to help military veterans find jobs after many years of sacrifice for all of us that stayed home. As a CEO of a small technology company in Silicon Valley I am now in a unique position to put that passion to purpose.
I asked myself the question: just because my heart is behind it, does it make sense for my company to hire military veterans. I did my homework and the answer is a resounding, YES.
My research led me to an article by Forbes contributing editor, Shane Robinson – Why a Veteran Might Be Your Next Best Hire.
Shane outlines the following that have not only left me convinced that not only will it be good move but a game-changing move. The list of veteran qualities reads like a small technology company mission / value statement.
Leadership readiness at every level
Composure and creativity under pressure
Big picture understanding, relentless attention to detail
The ultimate team player mentality
Habitual goal orientation
In addition to guest contributions I will dive individually into why hiring a military veteran is a game-changer, starting with Leadership readiness at entry level.
I look forward to the dialogue and hope you’ll weigh in with your thoughts and comments.
