What’s in a Name? The Meaning Behind 6Connex

Our virtual event sales reps and event planners get asked a lot of questions, like:
    • How many concurrent attendees can we accommodate with the Enterprise SaaS license? (Answer: 2,000).
    • How many rooms come with a standard license? (Answer: 10).
    • Can we have an enterprise reference? (Answer: Of course! While we’re scheduling the call, you can check out our 6Connex case studies here).

And perhaps our favorite question:

What Does the Name "6Connex" Mean?

For those of you who love a good party game or worship Kevin Bacon (maybe even in equal measure), you’ll be pleased to know the answer: our company name hails from 1929, when Frigyes Karinthy put forth the theory that all people on average are six, or less, social connections away from each other. The idea was brought to life in a 1990 Pulitzer Prize-nominated play, Six Degrees of Separation, as well as a film in 1993 (which, for the record, did not feature Kevin Bacon).

Since the 1990s, the idea has gone mainstream in popular culture, thanks to television producers such as J.J. Abrams and website applications such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. And of course we cannot forget the “Kevin Bacon game,” in which players are challenged to connect an actor to Kevin Bacon in six degrees or less. For example, John Malkovich, and even Natalie Portman:

John Malkovich

    • John Malkovich was in Death of a Salesman with Dustin Hoffman.
    • And Dustin Hoffman was in Sleepers with… Kevin Bacon!

Ergo, John Malkovich has a “Bacon number” of 2.

Natalie Portman

    • Natalie Portman was in Everyone Says I Love You with Julia Roberts.
    • And Julia Roberts was in Flatliners with… Kevin Bacon!

So Natalie Portman also has a “Bacon number” of 2  Fun, right? Add some music and a few snacks and we just upped your quarantine ante.

The Perfect Pairing

It’s this exact combination of “connection” and “fun” that makes the 6Connex organization – and our virtual event product portfolio – the industry leader. Those two themes are the foundation of all of our virtual environments. From sales kickoffs to trade shows, we begin each project with two questions:

  1. How can we create as many opportunities as possible for users to connect with content, with thought leaders, and with each other?
  2. How can we make the environment fun, so that people stay engaged and frequently re-visit?

Then, we give our customers the tools they need to deliver on these objectives:

    • Live presentations
    • Real time Q&As
    • On-demand videos
    • Games, contests, and polls
    • Networking features and real-time chats
    • Custom branding and state-of-the-art graphics

Heck, we can even include Kevin Bacon movies and memes if that’s your thing!

Six Degrees of Knowledgeable

At 6Connex, the accolades don’t all go to Kevin. 6Connex customers have the services and support you’d expect from a large organization, with the enthusiasm and efficiency of a small company. Our account management teams are just as connected as Kevin and six degrees of knowledgeable. From Europe to the U.S., they trailblaze and strategize to build environments and relationships. They’re movers and shakers – creative, dedicated people who think accountability, collaboration, and integrity are verbs. And just like Kevin, some of them can even dance.

The Theory Stands Up

In a world of billions of people, it does seem hard to believe that we are just six introductions away from any other person on the planet. But at 6Connex, not only do we believe the theory stands up, but we also argue that in our virtual environments, the number is far less than six.  Regardless of the nature of your events or which license you choose, our technology is an immediate gateway to interesting and profitable professional relationships.
